Tonearm Interconnects
Tonearm Interconnects
I use a set of leads i made up with Van Damme 'XKE' which is a Ag plated OFC conductor, sounds all right, Dead cheap to make up..
However i notice a lot like the equally as cheap Klotz 'MC5000' Wire. Anyone tried both these? I think the Klotz is a lower Capacitance wire

Re: Tonearm Interconnects
It's my view that capacitance shouldn't be 'too' low for a tonearm interconnect. The MC5000 is too thick and almost unwieldy for a tonearm, but van Damme Pro Patch is superb, but not really 'better' than XKE (I use both) in my view. I don't have enough SC to try (only too-short off-cuts), but no reason at all why this shouldn't work really well either for the low level cartridge signals.

Re: Tonearm Interconnects
Remember Dave the SME had RCA Mod & TT No suspension at all so thickness/stiffness is no issue at least to the missus
Re: Tonearm Interconnects
What i did borrow was a pair of Atlas 'Element Integra' [63pF/Mtr] interconnects not had chance to listern yet..

Re: Tonearm Interconnects
The MC5000 and AC110 both have a slightly rich midrange, the excesses of which tame right down with use into a fine audio cable for domestic use as well as Pro. The MC5000 is a very good mic cable and makes cheaper ones sound a bit scrappy and rough (anyone reading this who's compared SC to SSC and then SSPmk2 should get what I describe).
Is Marco the only AOSer who's tried the Carbokab 225 from Thomann?

Shotgunned cable is not suitable for arm cable so only SC is suitable of nva interconnects._D_S_J_R_ wrote:The MC5000 and AC110 both have a slightly rich midrange, the excesses of which tame right down with use into a fine audio cable for domestic use as well as Pro. Re: Tonearm Interconnects
I could make special but it needs different construction to SSC or SSP2. For an arm lead you need the screen to carry the neg and earth or you can get hum. Shotgunned cables only use the screen as a Faraday Cage if floating or as an RF screen if attached one end to earth. Not sure I want to make them as there are specialist arm cables out there with the arm plugs fitted which I hate to try and wire so don't bother. My PL71 has phono sockets on the back.Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:Soundcord.
