I can't be arsed to put back all the stuff that has gone, so here is an up-to-date shot of the underside of one of the amps.
The wiring is almost done. Just needs a regulator board for the input pentode screen grids to be installed and the
XLR input wiring putting in. Amp 1 can then be tested and brought into service:

After cueing up a few mono records we have music

Image

It all worked perfectly from the off. All voltages within spec and no smoke.
After adjusting the screen balance control of the input stage so that each side of the cathode follower
driver was outputting the same DC voltage and biasing and balancing the output stage, we were off and running.

Niiiiiiiice 8-)

The other amp should be operational in a couple of days.

Yes
The type of paper used in the isolating feet has a significant effect on the ultimate sound quality achievable.
Believe it or not, you can even hear differences according to what font was used for the printing.
Palatino has a slight edge over Times New Roman, but it's not make or break.

Don't tell anyone else, but Comic Sans MS transforms the whole system; you hear instruments that aren't even on the recording.

Amp 2 is almost finished.
The photo shows the output stage and screen grid voltage regulator valve all wired up.
Green resistors unterminated at one end are part of the feedback network.

Should be up and running by tomorrow evening. After that it is making a base and feet for each unit
and fitting a knob to the pots between each set of input valves.

Amp 2 is finished tested, biased up and working:

Just need now to make the bases as I said before, but I'll be having a bit of fun later on, trying the pair out in the system, with some music. I sense a late night ahead :P

And here are both monos playing via the Sowter phase-splitting transformer equipped passive balanced preamp, built by my son. This can be seen on top of the DAC, behind the right hand amplifier.

At the moment, they are fitted with Electro-Harmonix 6CA7EH output valves.

Niiiice 8-)
An enjoyable evening is ahead.
This is what hi-fi should be about.
