I nabbbed some Epicure 100's specifically to give a go with the NVA amps. They are old 1970ish, and have never been used
Anyway, prised off the covers and yup, foam rot has set in. Small cracks all around the bass/mid driver. Otherwise pristine , had a look inside and there is NO crossover. A resistor and the treble attenuator and that is it. Should be right what the Doc ordered .
Hooked them up and within 5 mins the foam was disintegrating as i expected.
Soundwise - rich, with good soundstage depth but not a lot of midrange clarity. Sounds a bit muddy on vocals , is this expected due to the foam needing replacing or could it be they just sound like that ? or need running in ?
So, good folks , how do i go about improving them ? any suggestions most welcome . I will try and get some pics up shortly .

Re: speaker project
I am ashamed to say I have never heard of them, it looks like I very much should have. Perhaps others have more information.

There is a specialist in repairing & restoring Epicure speakers. Appears to be a little-known American gem.

Re: speaker project
I was actually looking forthe Dynaco 25 but cross reading came upon Epi and people compared them favourably with the Dynaco's(which go for 2-250 on flea bay) so took a shot at them. As Fret says an American designer and they do have a cult following. A/b them with my Castle chester's , one Epi to one channel and the Castle on the other, makes the chester sound like a small transisitor radio !!! Was quite shocked at that. Must get some pics done .Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:I am ashamed to say I have never heard of them, it looks like I very much should have. Perhaps others have more information.
Cheers Fretless, if i cannot refoam them myself i will look into the usa restorer.Fretless wrote:There is a specialist in repairing & restoring Epicure speakers. Appears to be a little-known American gem.
