Hamish something or other. I think he moved to the York branch of the Sound Organisation.

Sorry but for me they were both a couple of brainwashed tits, probably nice bloke brainwashed tits, but still brainwashed tits.

The problem with brainwashing is you just don't know you have it until you break the spell, and the first step is the hardest. There are people who specialise in it to get people out of cults, they should have been employed to deal with the cult known as The Flat Earth.

They just sold me some stuff. It must have been Hamish who sold me the Nytech amp and Mordaunt-Short speakers, and Roger Macer who a couple of years later sold me the Roksan. The Nytech died spectacularly several years ago; the Mordant-Shorts are in a cupboard somewhere. I did the Jimmy Hughes' recommended mod of removing the foam wadding and attaching some Deflex panels inside the cabinets. (In fact that's the only thing I've ever modded.)

Roger is sadly no longer with us. Just before the London store was opened, he came to KJ for a few months to get some earnings and I have to say he was a (good) revelation for me. Salesman certainly, but a kind one nonetheless IMO. The York store owned/managed by Hamish was a Linn/Naim (wet) dream. Decent size dem rooms, lovely décor and coffee on tap downstairs, it was a departure from the often dingy sh*t-holes that most dealers had become back then.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...
