Anyone (apart from me) tried the YouTube options in the latest version of Volumio? I enjoyed a live recording of a James Morrison (no, not that one) concert.

India is not widely regarded as a source of High-End audio equipment, but there is one company there mounting a guerilla campaign in the area of micro-computer music players: Allo.

Allo are based in Bangalore and first came to notice with their Raspberry Pi clone, the Sparky Board. This could also be fitted with a DAC output (the Piano) and they even have a dedicated audio reclocker board called the Kali. However they saw that most hobbyists have a preference for the trusty Pi and so the newest offering from Allo is the DigiOne - a digital audio unit made specifically for the Pi and offering unprecedented performance.

The engineers at Allo have taken the technology from the Kali Reclocker and adapted it for the Pi. A special power supply module ensures clean power to the unit and digital SP/DIF output is via RCA and BNC sockets - no Toslink optical as Allo regard that as too prone to jitter and sonically inferior.

Allo claim a phenomenally low jitter rate for the DigiOne and comments from around the web indicate that the sound quality approaches that of megabuck streaming devices.

Is this better than HifiBerry's latest audiophile offering, the Digi+ PRO ? Well I hope to find out soon as I have just ordered one. The DigiOne costs about twice as much as the Digi+ PRO (still peanuts in High-End audio-land) and I will be fitting a BNC-RCA adaptor so I can use both outputs as normal RCA.

Hopefully it'll be in this week - catch you all later .... :ugeek:

Just a quick note about Pi PSU, Alan and I did standard post regs and SMPSU but the best we found was using a Rail to Rail Low Noise Op-Amp and Ref Diode with complementary Push Pull Output. The sound was and still is fantastic, I also added a Thyristor Over Voltage Crowbar Circuit, just in case.

If interested I will post diagram up if I can find it, give me a bit of time only 50TB hardrives to search.

Did I say 'Dramatic' yet ? Well I should have.

Just fired up the Allo DigiOne for the first time and can report that this isn't a step up - it's a whole new ladder !!!

More later.

The mini-Orac transparent thingy is the Pi/Allo Digione.
Observant readers might spot a small 'improvement' to the speaker stands.
