Yes, an enclosed speaker is a drum so it resonates due to its structure. A horn and a transmission line are pipes which resonate according to their shape.

This thread may have gone a little cold now but all this talk of OBs reminds me of a story of our Italian service manager (no names no pack drill) at KJ in the mid 1970s who decided to apply the OB principle with a twist to his IMF Professional Monitors to extend the transmission line so while his wife was on holiday he cut holes in the base of the speakers and two holes through their new lounge carpet and the floor beneath coupling it to the cellar below. He wasn't so chipper when she got back!!!!

Why would he do something so stupid. And this is someone getting people to spend hundred or thousands of pounds on his recommendations. I wouldn't get him to recommend me a toffee apple.

No idea just an amusing tale. BTW he didn't make recommendations to people to spend money, it was not his role.

Hi,

Steel plates worked great in my Magnum K.

Then rewired with silver coated PTFE insulated cable, upgraded to clarity caps( then dripped the solder on my arm backing out of the cabinet, it didn't help the music at all). Sound is great, just waiting for Doc to send out the new cables.

He was chief service engineer and a good one as I recall, although he returned to Italy I think, shortly after I joined in 1974...
