Re: steel plates in speakers
ok so ive spent half the day lining the inside of my ms pageants with 4mm plate,im listening to them now and they are defiantly better for it,they sounded a bit nasal at first but moving them closer to the wall has warmed them up.the ports i stuffed with a sock for now and all wadding has been removed, there wasn't much in them, just enough to damp the rear panel.
they weigh a ton now!
what i have found is they sound louder at the same volume, the bass/mid to my ears is tighter?
so far im happy with the mods,so whats next?.........

Re: steel plates in speakers
Seal the ports on the inside with something hard and airtight - I used jam-jar lids on my mods - tightens up the sound and imaging.

Re: steel plates in speakers
Get used to them and then drive unit mods and remove crossover (apart from tweeter protection cap).
Post photo of the drive units and tell me what they are made of.

Re: steel plates in speakers
here's some pics for you,
and the Specification:
Nominal Frequency Range: 20 - 5,000 Hz.
Impedance: 8 Ohms nominal.
Nominal Sensitivity: 6.5 V r.m.s (5.3 watts) to produce 96 dB at 1 metre in anechoic condition using pink noise.
Fundamental Resonance: 30 Hz in free-air.
Continuous Programme Rating: 20 V r.m.s (50 watts) contoured random noise when operating within frequency range 25 - 5,000 Hz.
Chassis: 208 mm nominal diameter, zinc plated heavy gauge steel.
Magnet: High flux assembly employing 90 mm diameter ceramic ring.
Cone: 140 mm diameter; heavy duty impregnated paper specially treated with viscous damping materials.
Surround: Ultra-linear, compliant, inverted-roll surround of a synthetic material inherently self damping.
Voice Coil: 26 mm diameter, long throw, high temperature coil, wound on laminated former.
Dimensions: Diameter: 208 - 244 mm; Depth: 112 mm.
Weight: 1.5 kg

Slightly doped paper. Follow the same procedure as outlined on the Goodmans thread.

Re: steel plates in speakers
Yes. All surfaces. The baffle is difficult unless you get the holes cut in the steel. I normally do it with lots of small plates and cover as much area as possible.
