The Empire speakers look amazingly modern in those photos.
The Wharfedales have that squat 1960's look shared by Bozak 302's:

I enjoy looking at these big vintage speakers. Good job for my wallet that my room is too small for them.
Possibly a vintage t/t at some point...

I share that "problem", my NAD 60s aren't small but some of those are massive by comparison.
I think my 1970s Thorens TD160 is already vintage enough.

Yeah I suppose there's a limit to how small you can make a speaker if you want to stick a 12 or 15" driver in it.
And there's a limit to how interesting a speaker will be for me if it doesn't have 12 or 15".
I find it difficult to gauge size from ebay photos, Every speaker in this thread so far looks quite domestically friendly to me, if you don't mind a squat shape instead of the current flavour of the decade; slimline front and deep.
And coming back to the Empires, there's quite a few speakers that would be more house friendly if they were in a cylindrical fluted cabinet and had marble tops.
And there's a limit to how interesting a speaker will be for me if it doesn't have 12 or 15".

The Empires would look great in a retro clothes shop 
put a hat or glove stand on each one and play 50s and 60's jazz / pop 45's on an autochanger - MAGIC.
They are basically semi omni bordering on full omni so anywhere in the room. AND at that price I bet they go up in price over time.
