Sometimes i wish i didn't listen to others, i remember getting a Marantz Ken Ishy...603 i think,
also read brilliant things about the Philips DVD 936sa in HiFi+ (product of the year),
what a disappointment it was compared to what i had.

Or better learn for yourself. Pick something on ebay that is cheap and off the radar, try it, you never know, it is fun.

These are awesome and I picked mine up for only 12 euros - a Kenwood DP 4090.
The other models in the series are even better: DP 5090 and DP 7090
