No they aren't the ones. I know the ones you mean though. These have been re foamed in the past according to the seller.

Seems like these are a genuine speaker. Would be good if there were some photos on the internet though as I am not entirely convinced about the purple driver. When did the name change from akroyd to just royd?

I think Akroyd may have been the branding for the USA.

Ah right that tallies up with them being an American market speaker.

They use Goodmans drive units, and I think this is just after he left Goodmkans to set up on his own.

You want cheap Royds then buy pre 1975 Goodmans.

I know this is a bit off topic but would he have been involved in the design of the Magnum as well as the Maxim? If so I wander why he didn't produce a royd speaker with a big driver.

Yes he was a senior designer.

He had to limit his production due to available drivers he could modify as Goodmans cheapened everything until they went bust after he left. He was an advocate of small speakers designed to give a big performance.

You can see clearly the Goodmans influence (and drivers) in these early speakers.
