Yes I worked for them when they were being produced, was even on the production line (test) when it was all hands to the pumps when the gov put VAT up in the mid 70's. AR designed good big speaker - the AR3a and the AR10pi, and good small speakers the AR7, but they wanted a range of speakers, and by that time the guys who knew what they were talking about Stateside had left the company, and we Brits had no influence on design. So the in between speakers were largely naff as they just threw existing drivers in different cabinets to price points and expected them to work, well most didn't. But by chance sometimes a couple did, like the AR17. But also some were shrieking horrors like the AR18 and some were muffled windbags like the AR12. Well the predecessor to the AR12 was the AR2ax and before that the AR2, not as bad as the 12 but still not very good.

I've always admired AR's. My father used to have a pair which sounded soooo good on a Revox amp at the time.. was only a boy then but I can remember the sound as if it where yesterday... hoooooo.... I didn't like the music he played very much at the time since it was mainly depressing stuff like Mahler, Stravinski, a.o. but I guess he had the right stuff..
I think it was a pair of 7's..

Doc,

What is a good price for the AR-7? Are the AR-7 easy to drive?
