And it always baffled me (quite genuinely) that Audiolab took the blueprint for the 8000A from the A&R A60. One lesson in how to royally f*ck-up a really nice little amp.Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:Anyway at least the Lentek was better than the Audiolab. Strange Lentek - Audiolab - Tag MaClaren, funny how they got worse each time.
As an aside - I used to own an A60, came by it almost by accident...
Bought a Mission Cyrus 2 (ie the latest super duper whizz-bang amp from Huntingdon). Took it back because I thought it was faulty, brought another one home, it was just as bad. Dealer let me borrow his demo one (so it was run in). Sounded just as bad. He took the Cyrus back as a trade-in on a used Nytech CA252 plus cash to me - which I spent in the shop anyway as he was a good bloke.
The Nytech was a peach - not a lot of power, but sooooo easy to listen to. Took it round a mate's house to put up against his A&R A60 - I preferred the A60 by a small margin, he preferred the Nytech so we swapped them. You can get a nice A60 for less than 100 quid now, and it really is a lovely amp imho if it's not knackered.
