I'm assuming you've all had specialised room treatment in your homes and were able to compare said treatments against rugs on wall, extra thick curtains ect. If this is the case I apologise for disagreeing with the Doc, if not then your all talking :Bllocks:

Thick, soft and textured. Paint with a matt or chalk finish. Perfect!
Very nice Savvy, of course I was only joking.

If they are pictures then it is even more nonsense, what are they trying to do. If they are pictures then put up a picture, nothing of no substance will produce anything of any substance, it is all :hbs:

My argument is that everyday furnishings and fittings, when selected and placed with a modicum of common sense, can do exactly the same job at no cost (i.e you need the everyday items, anyway).

I found some useful, free ideas in this series of short articles by Russ Andrews: http://www.russandrews.com/understanding-your-room/

He also criticises "loudspeakers...designed with loose, floppy drive units and complex crossover networks".

I would tell anyone who asks me, not to bother with recording studio style treatments in a domestic room...am I talking bollocks?

Mine is painted with Farrow & Ball 'Purbeck Stone' - so I do get attracted to the 'bollocks' sometimes

So he bought them, you are confusing me.

Re room treatment, it is just another bullshit to fall for. Where do you think they get the materials to make these things, do you think they have magic up new materials. You can buy the stuff for a few £ or even some pence at B&Q or Homebase. It is all marketing and bollocks which is why he has to do a selling job at MCRU place, foot taping and all that.. There is nothing they make that you couldn't knock up in less than an hour for a few quid. And as far as the daft pictures FFS they are pictures, so buy some picture and stick / hide a slab of polystyrene behind it. I doubt it will do anything. Bass traps (as called) in reality they couldn't catch a cold, it is just tarted up foam blocks.

Why try to fight the room when you can work with it.

I'll say it again Savvypaul, these treatments can be useful if one doesn't want to put furnishings in a room, liking to keep the room minimalist. Not knowing your finances, but lets say you won the lottery and decided to have a specialist room built for your hifi, would you not consider using professional help, or would you just build the room and hope that furnishings would cure any problems. Oh and nothing wrong with buying quality paint.

I think if were lucky enough to have a dedicated music room, I would still have carpet, rug, big sofa and chairs, heavy curtains etc etc. I mean, have you seen me? I don't keep myself minimalist, let alone my room...

Turning the question around...do you agree that in a traditionally furnished room, given a little bit of thought to absorbtion, studio type treatments are not necessary?

Professional help my arse, he know no more than you do, he has ears to judge, but not your ears. All he has is a business, a way to make money and use bullshit.

Now for a real professional job like the Albert Hall and the Festival hall, then time lines are long and echos are so strong the calculations can mean something. Trouble is even they rarely get it right as they don't use their ears and music.
