How do they do that for £6??!!

Didn't see anyone running for the hills...

I would be very interested in the conclusions of a bake off of DACs at all prices, with and without power supplies.

Early December is my next meet up, date to be confirmed.

I think DAC's would be a useful subject and also a talk by David Shevyn on room treatment ( he runs GIK Acoustics just down the road in Bradford).

I have quite a few DAC's and will welcome new ones to compare so please bring what you own. Sources will be a Mac Mini and a Melco.

RD if you are making the trip let me know asap so I can book somewhere for you to stay as it will be busy this time of year. I will PM the date when its sorted and announce to all asap.

I better not come then as I would end up being rude to him. For me room treatment is rip-off bullshit, all you need in a room is to live in it and put the things in you need in it to live in it. AND get a pair of speaker that don't fight the room but work with it.

Would like to hear the dacs, and would bring my own.

If you decide to run the day without the GIK pitch then I'm keen to attend.

I would echo Pauls sentiment here and would like to attend provided there is no gobbly gook going on.

Have to disagree with you on this Doc. As you know I am very happy with my Cubes and they work and sound wonderful in my small room, but not everyone wants to buy Cubes. You have said before, your Cubes did not work very well at a show/demonstration were the ceilings were high. In such cases room treatment maybe very beneficial, and I know of one person who is struggling to get the sound he wants because his seating position is very close to the back wall. He has tried Cubes, on my recommendation, but did not get on with them. If I was closer to Huddersfield I would have loved to go to the dac bake-off and maybe hear what room treatment can do for the sound.

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with room treatment. It is very simple, Cubes work in normal rooms not halls or massive dem rooms, they need the ceiling, they need the room walls to work THE OPPOSITE TO NORMAL SPEAKERS. Room treatment is bullshit - full stop - and a way to rip us off yet again. Just look at the daft prices of bits of foam and cardboard and chipboard. If your room is over bright in your opinion then move the speaker closer to the wall and put in a rug and / or a nice sofa, a couple of human bodies works as well.

Also if your friend didn't like Cubes he wasn't using them correctly or the rest of the system was crap. The Cubix was designed for big rooms (in size not height). There is absolutely no situation that a room can't be made the same as wasting loads of money on stupid bass traps and similar, even something like hanging a duvet on the wall will do the same, or nice thick curtains.

Like so many other things in this industry it is just :Bllocks:

Even Russ Andrews is adamant that studio type treatments are completely unnecessary in a domestic environment.

My 'room treatments' are: carpet, rug, linen sofa, leather chairs, bookcase, lined heavy curtains, lp storage, anaglypta wallpaper painted with matt emulsion, and a rather large belly.
