I think the cheapie I have in place is sub standard because the connections are loose and the one in the Sky Q box sometimes comes out. I think Cinamon is the right level taking into acount the source and the Mscaler's upsampling needs to be halved to 352 kHz to prevent the audio and video being out of sync. I believe the extra expense of Carbon is only justified between the streamer and Mscaler.

From what I have read it would appear that better HDMI cables do improve picture quality. Something I will have to think about. The new tv was put on the back burner when the footy stopped, but now it is back on. Was looking at them pre lockdown and was most impressed by LG OELD. They have since brought out a smaller screen size more appropriate for the room. Very tempting as we can't go anywhere, are saving a lot of money are watching more tv. :geek:
The AQ Cinamon Optical cable arrived this morning and on opening the box I was not impressed. It is very thin where as the cable in place is almost as thick as TSCS. The impression improved when I plugged it in, the connections are tight and not loose as previously. The improvement in sound is a revelation with a veil being lifted accross the board with extra bass depth. Of course you cannot make a silk purse out of a sous year so the quality of source is still important. Quality You Tube videos are very listenacble now. The best sound is from the radio where there is no sync issue requiring a reduction in the sample rate. Classic Rock Radio sounds superb and its superior SQ to Planet Rock is more pronounced. I would strongly recommend this cable to anyone with a tv connected to a DAC with an Optical input.

I have AQ Carbon HDMI on order and it should arrive before the new tv is up and running.

I have AQ Carbon HDMI on order and it should arrive before the new tv is up and running.
The cable arrived today and is similar to the AQ USB Carbon I have in my hifi set up, well constructed, quite thick and stiff. I can report that the reviews I read are generally accurate. Quality video cables do make a difference as is the case with audio cables. The picture is slightly sharper and colours are more vibrant. This improvement is on our LG tv from 2009 and I would expect it to be a lot more pronounced on the new OLED one yet to be set up. Should we keep the old tv and get Sky multi room, I will be very tempted to get another length.

I under stated what an improvement this cable is over rhe one supplied by Sky. Mrs 2112 found that the picture was clearer without her glasses on. I removed mine and it was the same for me.

I think the big jump in quality has a lot to do with the Sky Q box and a very mediocre old Sky cable which was in place before. The AQ Carbon in the hifi replaced a very decent Wireworld cable hence the jump, though significant, was not as great. Cables do make a difference. :guiness;

Hey 'Up.

Played around over the years with "many several" HDMI cables for both video quality and i2s audio quality,
here's another guys £0.02 worth.

Recently bought an 2021 Apple TV 4K (awesome thing for Audiophile YouTube audio) and the cable Apple recommends for it makes for the best picture quality I've seen.
(Have a good Sony OLED telly that shows up the differences easily)

Tried a range of cables from "sensibly engineered" BlueJeans bonded-pair cables, up to top end spendy Wireworlds, and the Apple TV reccy at £30 has the best picture quality of any cable I've tried.
That includes both the Active "Redmere" directional cables and the Optical 8K ready cables.
The Belden/Apple one is just better.
https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/H ... i-cable-2m

For Audio I can use HDMI, well...i2s.
The Bluray player has an HDMI input, which I've hooked up a switchbox with PS5, Apple Tv 'n other stuff connected to the Dac's i2s input.
Use the players HDMI input from the switchbox, to output over HDMI/i2s cable to send audio to the Dac, and then out the system speakers.

I know there's better out there?
but best sounding one I've actually tried is the Wireworld Silver Starlight 7.
Not the cheapest, but got a 2nd hand Billy Bargain on this, and all my power cabling is in the same Wireworld range, so know just how good it is.
That cable is discontinued.

But word around the Campfire is that Wireworld's current much cheaper Silver Sphere HDMI offering is even better.
https://www.futureshop.co.uk/wireworld- ... gLzmPD_BwE

Different construction geometry but higher specced at 48G, just like the Apple TV one I use for best quality video.
Tempted to try it, but you gotta stop somewhere, right?

Hope this 'elps. :)
