Fire TV Cube

Unread post by slinger »

Out on October 10th this looks rather snazzy.

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MNBT68T

To quote Amazon's blurb...
  • Fire TV Cube is the fastest, most powerful Fire TV ever, delivering a fast, fluid experience for your favourite films and TV programmes.
  • From across the room, just ask Alexa to turn on the TV, dim compatible lights and play what you want to watch.
  • Control your compatible soundbar and A/V receiver; change satellite channels with your voice.
  • With the built-in speaker, ask Alexa to check the weather, turn off compatible lights and more - even when the TV is off.
  • With an ultra-powerful hex-core processor, Fire TV Cube delivers instant access to 4K Ultra HD content, plus support for Dolby Vision and HDR, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos.
  • Watch favourites from Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, ITV Hub, All 4, Curzon and more. Subscriptions may be required.
  • Fire TV Cube is designed to protect your privacy. To electronically disconnect the microphones, press the Microphone On/Off button.
  • With a Prime subscription, watch thousands of films and TV programmes including 'Good Omens' and 'Hanna'.
  • Use the included Alexa Voice Remote to control your TV without making a sound.
I've already got an Amazon Dot in a few rooms, and my lights are nearly all voice-controlled. I've already got a Fire TV Box too, but I wonder how much they'll drop the price of these in their "Black Friday" event...
I shall be keeping an eye on them and consider moving the Amazon Show to the bedroom where it can become a relatively expensive talking alarm clock, amongst other things.

Alexa, (or any of the other voice activated devices), is NEVER entering my house, for anything. I really don't see the attraction. "Designed to protect your privacy" ?? A device sitting on your sideboard, listening to your every word whilst connected to the internet? Yeah right.
Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Benz Micro Gullwing SLR, Phono 2, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

I live on my own, so it's more than welcome to catch me talking to myself, and even when my wife was alive we never discussed our criminal plans, or any state secrets, indoors.

I like being able to turn the bedroom light, or the loo light, on before I actually go upstairs, and turning the kitchen light on when I've got crockery and cups occupying both hands without having to use my nose.

+1
I am very p.............d off with Amazon. I bought a Fire tablet sometime ago and have found that I am not able to down load or update any apps which are not theres. It means that I cannot operate by NAS, containing all my CDs and photos, from the Tablet. I want nothing to do with the shite Amazon cloud which will not accomodate high resolution music. Last year I was able to download the Qobuz app, but the update earlier this year was blocked and with it the offline function. I will never buy anything made by Amazon again, the same as with Apple. I hate companies who want to own your mind body and soul, blocking out competitors. Rant over. :angry-screaming:
