I really related to Wall-E.

Love that film.

Oh, and the new 'Dark Crystal' series on Netflix is visually stunning and very enjoyable.

A brief update...

I now have AudioQuest Cinnamon HDMI leads from my Freesat box, LG Blu-ray player, and Amazon Fire TV box to the amp. The main, feed from the Yamaha to the telly is currently a QED Performance Qunex HDMI-P, and will remain so until I can find something better, ideally a 1.5m Cinnamon, at a decent discount. The only thing that's currently not going via the amp is my Chromecast.

I've got an AudioQuest Forest optical S/PDIF lead coming that will run from amp to TV, more as a fallback than anything else, and it was dirt cheap. :D

While I've been writing this I've started wondering if the Chromecast would work plugged into the amp, rather than the TV. I can still provide power to it via USB from the TV... I shall investigate. In the meantime, if anyone knows of a reason it wouldn't work I'd be pleased to hear about it.

In the meantime, I'm very pleased with the way things have gone. Sound and picture have both seen an improvement.

This might interest you Slinger,
Running Chromecast via ethernet cable.

When I was messing around with USB cables I had an AQ Cinnamon and was impressed by the SQ it provided. Until I tried the Supra USB which was noticeably clearer and more dynamic.

Cheers. Fretless. I should have said that I'm quite happy with the Chromecast as is, and it's in the same room as my router, so no dropouts. TBH about all it gets used for these days is streaming the odd footy match from the PC or my Chromebook.

I've had a poke around on the net, and it seems that there should be no problems with plugging it into the Yamaha. It would be an even easier job if there was a USB socket on the back of the amp. I don't know why I didn't think of this idea years ago though.

I'm using my Chromecast for the first time since I moved it from the TV to an input on the Yamaha AV amp, and gave it a nice new AudioQuest Forest USB lead to power it. The difference is observable, and it is positive. The Yamaha is happily upsampling from 1080p to 4K and it definitely improves the definition. Obviously it's still dependant on the source material, and I'm not going to try and kid you that it's a "night-and-day" change, but it is observable using one of my regular sources. I'm not (by a long chalk) convinced that the AudioQuest USB lead has anything to do with the improvement, but it does give me a nice warm feeling of "completeness," or at least it will do when I can lay hands on a bargain-price 1.5m AudioQuest Cinnamon HDMI lead. :D

Bottom line: If you've got an AV amp that upsamples, and you use Chromecast, I heartily recommend combining the two if you don't already. Actually, I'd give it a go whether your amp is capable of upsampling or not.
