As a sort of follow up from my original post, Pacific Rim was crap in 3D. It really was a gimmick. Every scene, and I do mean EVERY scene "needed" to have rain falling, snow falling, dust swirling...you get the (3D) picture...just to prove it really was 3D. On the other hand I've found that the Marvel universe films (Thor, Avengers, Iron Man, etc.) are uniformly good in 3D and really use it to enhance enjoyment rather than try to enforce it.

Loving the Marvel films. Saw Ant-Man recently and found it surprisingly good (in old-fashioned 2D).

Eye problem is not something that can be fixed by lenses or specs - it was a result of minor eye surgery 10 years ago (cataract op).

No, not in my case as I don't and never have had proper binocular vision. I have tried, but have to de-focus everything to even begin to get a 3-D effect and I ended up with a headache.

If a films been shot especially for 3D, think Avatar, then it can be a really awesome experience.
Most films nowadays though are converted for 3D release (which means a guy sittting at a workstation in the editing suite cutting out bits if the frame and layering it on top of others.)
Not EXACTLY as how the film maker intended?

Can be a bit pants and thats what makes 3d films bad for me.
Think old style Westerns with the tomahawks flying towards you out the screen!

But when its shot to take advantage of the technology it can be great and really add to the experience.
Wont make a shite film good though, Avatar I'm looking at you you tree hugging sonofabitch!
I have HIfi n' stuff.

Don't like it, I wear glasses and get pissed off with them so going to the cinema and putting on a pair of glasses rather takes away something from the escape from reality of watching a film.
Also the only films that I have watched in 3D "show off" the effect - it doesn't enhance the experience, just becomes a distraction.
Finally, I still enjoy black and white films, it helps me concentrate on the plot. In some ways similar to my enjoying mono records, many stereo records are a bit of a waste of the technology in my opinion.

All the best (grouchy old git)

As I've said before, I like 3D Blu-rays when they're done well, and the Marvel franchise/universe seems to have got it right.

Just read my post and in case of misunderstanding "grouchy old git" was a reference to myself!

I never for a moment thought "grouchy old git" was a reference to me, if that were the case it would have needed to be grouchy OLDER git.

I was just attempting to balance the view is all. As you may have seen in my exchanges with Lindsay I also advocate 5.1 sound at home. If a Blu-ray comes in 5.1 and 3D I'm of the opinion that there's a possible reason (other than just bells and whistles) for that so I'll give it a go if that's how it seems the director intended it to be watched. If the 3D's crap I can always watch the 2D version that's included.
