Re: Who do you listen to

Hope you are feeling better soon Stu. Although I am far removed from DIY I like reading your posts. I find this forum by far the best source of advice although there is much I do not agree with. My ears will always be the judge and I am aware that we do not all hear the same thing, or like the same...

Re: Who do you listen to

Sorry to hear of your injuries Stu, perhaps you should slow down a bit on the audio hobby as I feel your work and family commitments are heavy enough on their own. With respect to your audio projects, you have inspired me hugely to have a go myself - upgrading my A20 to something much greater and n...

Re: Who do you listen to

Wow, what a post Steve. That has gone a long way to make me feel sane again, thanks :guiness; I agree with all that you say to the extent that i believe we are very similar. I have built a few things (probably not as many as you) that go right back to when i started diy in 2008. I can switch in the ...

Re: Who do you listen to

Thanks for your kind words. That Monty Python cheered me up a bit. I am feeling lousy at the moment. Badly cut my thumb which wouldn't stop bleeding, did my back in just bending over  I find it very easy to get disheartened. Not that anything has gone wrong, far from it. My audio projects seem...

Who do you listen to

On audio matters that is. I find it is a mistake to listen to anybody but yourself. After all it is you that has to listen to it with your ears and preferences. I think it is best that you don't worry about what others think of your system. It seems most people want a pat on the back from others who...

Re: Today, I have mostly been....

Mostly been hobbling about today like an old man. Felt a twinge in my back first thing this morning whilst sweeping up around my log burner. Went straight for the ibuprofen but it has only taken the edge off. Alcohol has had a much better effect . Last week i cut my thumb with a handsaw whilst polla...

Re: My hifi is a disaster 1 problem at a time .

The midrange as it's own enclosure. I'm wondering if I keep the xover for the midrange. Probably a good idea but you could try simplifying it if it is complex and doing the same with the tweeter high pass filter. The mid will have a band pass filter on it rolling off low and high frequencies. I don...

Re: My hifi is a disaster 1 problem at a time .

I think you will find that even though you may think big speakers don't work in small rooms it is just the effortlessness of big bass drivers that win you over. They don't even have to go any lower in frequency, just move more air and do so with less distortion (because they are moving less). Enjoy....

Re: Boing

Plus the springs on LP12 are betwwen sub platter with bearing attached and the top plate which has the motor attached.

It's a whole different ball game using springs as feet under the whole deck, plinth and all.
