Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

I have found a suitable driver which has a published FR graph which is about as smooth as I am going to get. Starts to roll off naturally about 7 kHz so ideal. It's also a 5,25" which when modelled in winisd gives a suitable enclosure size. It is also 88d so 4dB more efficient than the cheap C...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Feeling quite flush and eager to get these finished so gave in to my inquisitiveness about more expensive drivers. The plan is to use some better drivers which won't need any doping but can still be run full range (no filters) just like doc's original cubix speakers. I have found a suitable driver w...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Pulled the trigger on four 300mm x 3mm mild steel hemispheres just now. Sick of procrastination so now £150 lighter. I still intend to separate the two hemispheres with a 25mm circular disk of birch ply to break up the internal dimensions. I have rigged up a way of using my 300mm chop saw to accurat...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

These speakers break the point source rule (as do nva cubes btw) - when more than one driveris used the two adjacent drivers should be less than a quarter wavelength at the xover frequency from centre to centre. With up and down firing mid bass that are both doped and running full range then that di...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Did a little experiment today with the 30cm pig balls that I won't be using for enclosures  https://i.imgur.com/FF6cepk.jpg Put it under the down firing mid bass. It has had quite an effect. Simply by changing how close to the driver the ball is changes the amount of bass. More on this when I g...

Re: Building a DIY amp with NVA amplifier boards

Inter winding capacitance has nothing to do with where you site the transformer although imo where you put the transformer is very important (even more important when using an EI). Lower inter winding capacitance of an EI is due to the construction method, split bobbins. There is less mains crap tra...

Re: Binge watching TV

Anyone else seen 'Squid Game' on Netflix? Bizarre Korean psycho-thriller. Gory, fascinating and addictive. https://thumbor.forbes.com/thumbor/711x451/https://specials-images.forbesimg.com/imageserve/6147477a52c1b479c755ed22/Squid-Game/960x0.jpg?fit=scale Not not seen anything about that. Re: Building a DIY amp with NVA amplifier boards

I know it's not my thread, but i thought Stu and others might be interested in a slight diversion... delme.jpg These boards have been sitting in a box for the last 20 years. I think they were old then as they are much larger than the others. The enormous transformer is from a dead onyko AV amp, an ...
