Re: Stereo to mono
Some months back I was part of a team working on getting live streaming capability for our church. We also asked the bidders to quote for upgrades to the sound system. One of them suggested a multi speaker mono array because "its long and narrow and you don't benefit from Stereo". Well in ...

Re: bought a reel to reel...........
I got my first reel to reel machine, an Akai 4000D in 1972 my second followed 10 years later. I am pleased to hear that others are discovering the joys of magnetic tape, even if I no longer use it for serious recording. 32 Tracks direct into a computer works for me.

Re: Led and voltage
Thanks, you given me somethings to think about and try. No problem. I was actually waiting for someone to tell me that I have done the maths wrong. Indeed I have if maximum brightness is the aim but my opinion is that the 3V of the LED can be ignored unless there is some specific reason to take it ...

Re: Ear maintenance
I'm all for those who can paying for simple procedures if it means you get a bi pass quicker. I agree. Probably not a popular view but the NHS has to prioritise and for that reason such things as cataract surgery have long waiting times. If people who can afford it get relatively minor procedures d...

Re: Led and voltage
LEDs are current devices so lets us assume 20mA.
Thus voltage divided by current gives resistance 58/0.02= 2,900 so a 3KΩ 1/4W resistor should do nicely.

Re: Wisdom of Russ
One thing in the linked article was a suggestion to check the security of the drive units in the cabinet "they will probably be loose" well I thought that costs nothing. I checked, they weren't loose. Neither were the drive units in some PA speakers I was working on last week, and they had...

Re: Why no analogue to digital talk
Analogue to Digital Converters tend to be sold as Audio Interfaces and connect to computers via USB or occasionally Firewire, prices vary depending on facilities but the two channel in versions are all pretty similar. I have a Behringer U-Phoria which allows 24bit 192 Khz audio recording. I have als...

Re: bought a reel to reel...........
Very different from my Teac which is a three motor machine, the reel tables each having an electronically controlled motor. There are just two belts, one for the capstans and one for the counter. The biggest problem with replacing the belt was a Philips head screw that didn't want to turn until I go...

Re: Wisdom of Russ
It used to be common knowledge that a RIAA input has an impedance of 47KΩ with a number of capacitance values that I can no longer remember. If the input impedance of the phono stage was different from that specified the sound quality suffered. In practice the impedance of the arm cable and the cabl...
