Re: Ashley James.
I've known Ash and Mart (business partner and the brains behind it all) for well over twenty years now. IMO, Martin DOES know what he's on about and researches his designs meticulously. If Martin says he's been able to get a switching amp to work acceptably well in their little baby actives, then I ...

Re: Epos ES14
Use the original stands (frothy-plant pot in the stand-well ) and with little bump-on feet on top instead of the cabinet killing top spikes (we used and I still use small clear feet from RS Components around 10mm x 3mm).. The main drivers should be around ear level with tweeters above you IIRC....

Re: Epos ES14
Hope I can share my experiences with these, which most of you know anyway from elsewhere :) The Es14's with 'phase plug' MUST have the foam bungs in if an 80Hz boom isn't to be confused with 'proper' bass. The only ES14's designed to have an 'open' port were the originals, with brown face-plates, th...

Re: Input Impedance of NVA Passives?
Here's me jumping in where perhaps I shouldn't, but in practise for domestic audio, the rule I believe is to have the output impedance of a source component as low as possible and the input impedance of the other end as high as possible. Some ss designs (and I think many/most valve designs) do this ...

Re: DD turntable Sony based?
I fondly remember the Sony original, which is a Sony PS 4750. The sucker platter 'mat' really works if kept clean and the only weakness at the time was feedback if badly sited, together with an inability with 1g tracking cartridges which ain't an issue at all now. We sold loads of Stanton 500EE's ba...

Re: AR7's for near field
The Doc will advise far better than I, but I loved the AR7, 6, 2ax, 3a (Improved preferably 'cos of the better tonal balance), MST and the rather naughty LST - I could never get on with the AR5 for some reason, but it's decades ago now. I lost track after the awesome but ugly 10 Pi they did and some...

Re: Small, small world
Designed by AVI's Martin Grindrod, who has a knack of good power supplies where rf-immunity is concerned. There's an in depth review somewhere on the net, on the integrated at least... You know, martin's reasoning when he occasionally posts is very sensible and sound. Such a shame his partner/mouthp...

Re: Worth a punt.
I know the OA7's and these could sound surprisingly good even if they weren't 'conventional' products. In an open plan Scandinavian environment I suspect they sang really nicely..

Re: AR7's for near field
These were lovely as I remember. Would they need the bass drivers re-foaming?

Re: Worth a punt.
I don't know the jap maker models you suggest, but the M-S and I suspect the Dalesford-based ones should still be great fun (I don't mind the tone of bextrene as long as the 'quack' is properly tamed with doping)...
