After a rather unsatisfactory listening session yesterday evening, I began to suspect the Sony home cinema amp I was using for testing (I needed 4 channel input from the miniDSP). Therefore, this morning I have rigged up a pair of Sure TPA3116 class D amp modules in a monoblock type configuration. V...

One of the few contemporary bands worth keeping an eye on: The National 'I Am Easy To Find' https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81dZJ8En1AL._SS500_.jpg Back with a new and gorgeous album that strokes you gently inside and then pierces you to the core. Their best since 'Boxer' Enchanting. "I Am...

Re: NVA is back!

Well done chaps! This is seriously good news. If there's anything useful a retired business school lecturer like me can contribute, please give me a shout. My specialist area was strategic information systems with a bit of e-commerce thrown in. I've temporarily forgotten most of what I knew and thin...

Re: New Open Baffle Project

Stu, one of the key criteria for the bass driver is a high QTS. Over 0.7 is desirable. The Eminence Alpha 15A is often recommended with a QTS of 1.2ish, but Fs is a highish 41hz. But the magnet on those is a bit weedy. The monacor has a QTS of 0.75 and an Fs of 25hz. There are very few drivers that ...

There is also a fine version with Simon Rattle on EMI.

That Stabat Mater is a masterpiece and deserves to be more widely known.
That's the version I was listening to! I'm rather fond of Arvo Part & a bit of Henryk Górecki too.

Re: New Open Baffle Project

The development baffles are now made. They have adjustable wings to help determine whether a standard baffle or a U frame, or something in between works best. Drivers installed. The miniDSP has been configured with a 4th order LR XO @ 160hz on both drivers. I have applied a 5db cut to the full range...

Re: Corbyn is an evil upstart monkey........

Excellent post DSJR. Indeed, it's perfectly reasonable to claim that the case for leaving was actually understated in the referendum campaign.

The British Constitution is about checks and balancs in respect of the three powers. It is clear that the Executive over stepped the mark yesterday. The Judicary could deem what happened illegal. I have an O level in British Constitution and it has not all been forgotton 44 years on. Does my Econom...
