Re: What do we think about record clamps?

When a fuse blows the filament vaporises and deposits itself on the inside of the tube. If the fuse gets hot enough this will conduct and render the fuse unfit. Ceramic fuses are therefore filled with quartz sand or similar to prevent this happening and are referred to as HRC fuses ( high rupturing ...

Re: What turntabe do you use and why ?

Thank you for the info Ant. I often wondered if any were made to mount at 222mm. Nice turntable Thermionic. I've just recently put my friends 401 in a birch ply plinth and mounted a 12" PU7 to keep it company. Cartridge is a Denon DL S1. It's an early 401 where you need to press on the speed tr...

I might get another one day. They were always a nice looker, much better than the Hadcock. I reckon one would probably do ok on a Lenco with a nice V15 on the end of it.

Re: What turntabe do you use and why ?

I could never set the cartridge correctly with the Mayware on my Empire. I assumed the geometry was just wrong but it should have worked. I gave up in the end and put the deck away when I went cd. Years later when we were having a clear out I threw the whole thing in the skip, Grado cartridge includ...

Re: Acrylic

It was a beautiful turntable that Gale and it was 1974. I like acrylic for its self damping properties. I've just picked up a big lump of delrin for my next turntable build. 100mm thick which will be reduced to 95mm or so after final machining. With its inherent properties it's likely to be good stu...

Re: What turntabe do you use and why ?

I had a Mayware on my first Empire. I didn't realise when I bought it that the geometry was wrong. The Empire suits Linn geometry arms at 211mm mounting distance. My current Empire has a Spacearm fitted which works well. I had to machine the arm pillar to get it to fit the Empire arm mounting which ...
