Re: British amps

I have a pair of Avondale Alpha 8s, forerunner of the NCC200. I also have a pair of Avondale NCC220s and a nearly finished pair of NCC300s. In the back room I have fully rebuilt pair of Musical Fidelity P140s. I have another stashed away somewhere along with a Rogers Cadet. Just remembered I have a ...

Re: Foreign amps

I have a pair of Jolida Music Envoys. 211s in push pull. Effortless. I also have a Crown PSA2 which I use most of the time. The Jolidas only come out to play when I'm having a serious session. There's a Urei 6290 in the back room which sounds great but as has already been mentioned they suffer from ...

Re: ‘Belts are for holding trousers up’

I have an idler drive tape deck in storage somewhere. FWIW even though I have several idler drive turntables about me, the two I use all the time are thread drive. The Lencos especially are just not quiet enough I’m afraid.

Re: ‘Belts are for holding trousers up’

I find the hardest part with any heavy platter Lenco is the low platter height relative to the top plate. I managed to get hold of a piece of 15mm thick ally plate and had one of the lads at work machine it up for me. I made my own spindle extender and that all works great with the AT arm. Enjoy you...

Re: ‘Belts are for holding trousers up’

Been reading about the L70 arm & B&O SP1 cartridge- checked the tracking weight and set at 2g- it’s really an engaging sound- not convinced any of the modern arms & cartridges I have will better it! Maybe but a better arm will surprise you. I have an AT1005 on my L70 in place of the ori...

I didn't know Richard apart from some words on this forum but I'm deeply saddened by his passing.

My condolences to his wife and family.

Re: Concrete Cube

I only did one, based on a Wharfedale Kit 5 in 1970, it was chipboard box with lots of nails part hammered in inside to give key and quick setting concrete poured in to line each panel. Worked for bass solidity but as said you needed a forklift to move them, sold them to a friend. Commercially didn...
