Re: What does hi-fi mean
I take it you must have compared the Audioquests to the Chord? What did you think?

Re: What does hi-fi mean
My daughter has the Audioquest Dragonfly, if I've got the name right. She brought it with her when she came over to visit. I really liked it and if I can't get my hands on an old HRT Pro, I might get one of these instead. I would have done this by now if it could do a slightly better job of driving ...

Re: How much !
Is that a lot these days?
I'm so far out of touch with what the 'vintage' gear sells for.
I must admit I wouldn't pay that much.

Don't be ridiculous. Why on earth would I want to do that?Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 4:59 pm CN it was just an excuse to dig at the speakers that he has never heard.

Be worth it if it made the music sound better though eh?Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 4:43 pm If I wanted I am sure I could improve the £5 DAC just with a big power supply, maybe a BBPSU . But then it would £5 for DAC and £1000 for power supply = daft.

Re: What does hi-fi mean
I've mentioned this before. I really wanted a Benchmark Dac. I wasn't entirely sure why. I had listened to a few at various points and in general liked what I heard. Don't get me wrong, it's a good Dac, but far more bits to fiddle with than I need these days. I keep thinking about selling it and goi...

Re: What does hi-fi mean
I am beginning to think these frequency response graphs are :Bllocks: There is a recent thread on Wam with a graph showing that the frequency response of the Chord Qutest DAC is flat, except with the highest frequencies, at all filter settings. This is not true. With the warm filter activated there...

Re: What does hi-fi mean
Sure I read it, What's your point?
Bass bloom is something you hear. The frequency response of a DAC is something you measure.
Given there has been a change in speakers but not in DAC, it seems quite reasonable to suggest that it could be the speakers.
