Re: Does the OS change the sound?

Absolutely. I agree. I'm just experimenting. If you want to tinker, then the possibilities offered by Linux are just about endless. My windows 8 experiment has come to naught (couldn't get Brainbit Asio to install with the preview version). However, the out of the box sound would certainly need enha...

Re: FFFFFFFF'ing Computers Hate Me!!!!

Sorry, but Lindsayt is right. Time for a recovery or a rebuild. If it's Windows 7 it shouldn't be too bad to do. (I take it it's your 'other PC' and not the TFS).

Re: Does the OS change the sound?

:ugeek: Someone has to do it, if only to help disperse the BS. No doubt someone will say that the position of the OS on the disk will affect the sound.

Re: Does the OS change the sound?

So, I've started an experiment. My TFS will have three different Operating Systems installed on it: Windows 7, as supplied; Windows 8, to test the assertion which I quoted in starting this thread; and some form of Linux.

Re: Dac

I am not a digital engineer, and I am not going to start a new learning curve now. Though I am (and so is Jason) going to experiment with tweaking and powering a Chinese dac pcb you can buy from ebay as some are saying they get good results. It may or may not lead to a new product. Any news on this...

Re: Your last listen

I've been 'darn sarf' and visited the V&A (thus confirming my memory of what a great place it is). Some of the exhibits have a sound presentation with headphones. One altar piece had a bit of period music to go with it: Polophony and chant with a simple organ accompaniment. Blimey, that got the ...

Re: Bridging NVA amps

Never tried bridging amps. I would have thought that logically the best route to go would be to buy a more powerful amp if you wanted to deliver more current the speakers but how would you know if the speakers really needed more current? Anyway, this is something that I'd be well content to leave to...

Sourcing Music

One of the delights of wandering around record shops in my early days was the sheer variety of music around, so what if I never bought that album of Indonesian Nose Flute Music, it mattered that it was there. At time before Progressive became Prog Rock, it mattered that there were new things to hear...

Re: Reviews and reviewers - are they necessarily bad?

In reading any sort of review, you need to be aware of the reason the review has been published. Reviews in magazines are there to sell the magazines so that the magazines can sell the advertising space for the manufacturers who attempt to influence the reviewers. Reviews on web sites are either van...

Re: Does the OS change the sound?

The probability of getting 2 machines architecturally identical and instal Max OS x on one and windows on the other to do comparisons is very low. Even with the same boards etc. installed there is a risk of chipset revisions and difference between them. You would have to request identical logic boa...
