Leather platter mats

Made myself a leather platter mat from some 2mm dark green leather. Bought a 7mm punch for the centre hole and made a 293mm disc out of a birch ply offcut to use as a cutting template. I an pretty surprised at the difference it has made, im not one for hyperbole, but compared to the heavy 6mm rubber...

Re: 'Real' bass - ported vs sealed speakers

The 15" ones wont hit you in the chest with the bass any more than the 12". Both went from sealed to aperiodic loaded, the 12s had the vent in the bottom firing at the floor, the 15s have it firing up at the ceiling. Going from sealed to aperiodic vented was beneficial. The aperiodic vent ...

Had to buy a new router when i was doing pauls newest lenco, the bearings finally went in my hitachi after 20 years hard use (and a new random orbit sander because the wanky ryobi one i had packed up aswell..... wasnt even a cheap one). Anyway... t...

Re: I've done my own head in.........again

One i am looking to buy at the moment it a WiiM mini. About 100 quid ish, plugs into an amp or a dac, controlled via either its own app or spotify connect or tidal connect. It can either connect to a dac via optical or use its own internal dac and analogue out. The tidal connect and optical out is w...

Re: Time to go Planar!

Little review of the fostex t50rp mk3 after spending some time with them I find these to be very very good for me. I value transparency very highly, the ability to pick an instrument, voice, the triangle in the back of the mix, whatever, and follow it, and be able to instantly switch to something el...

Re: Time to go Planar!

Listening to the fostex cans on the end of tonys wad headphone amp and i am impressed. They seem nicely balanced already, the reviews on the web seem to say that they require some running in to sound their best which isnt unexpected. They appear to do what they say on the tin. Or box in this case wh...

Re: MM versus MC

Bear in mind that the mm magnet generally weighs more than a set of coils these days. When i mentioned potentially less moving mass, i was thinking along the lines of the old line of empire carts including the 1000gt and 600lac which were built specifically to have very very low moving mass in the g...

Re: Time to go Planar!

Ive veen using the hd83 m1 dac combo for a little while now and have been pretty happy. The p7s are still the top dog, im a little disappointed with the sennheiser m2 over ears and m1 on ears. The m2s are very very comfortable, but the sound is just not quite there for me. They get muddled in the mi...
