Possibly a daft question, but once you have used an electronic stylus gauge to set preferred tracking force can't you make a note of the position of the arm counterweight/dial (effectively calibrating it it for future reference)? Or doesn't your arm have approximate markings ?

Ive found that silicone damping via a damping trough and paddle helps alot with controlling resonances in arm/cartridge systems. If a cart is isolated from the arm it shouldnt excite resonances in the arm itsself, but, its own structural resonances will affect its output as there is nowhere for the...

If you still have a Valhalla on your LP12, try a Heed Orbit - 45rpm at the flick of a switch and I thought it sounded more stable/"solid" presentation.
