Re: BMU considerations
It should not go in a rack and is probably too heavy. It should be on the floor well away from other gear. Wow, what does it weigh? I would have hoped my rack made from 1.5 inch walnut might hold it. Dave's suggestion of standing it on its side might be a possibility if I move the rack away from th...

BMU considerations
Doc, I'm considering buying a BMU but I am having a problem finding somewhere practical to place it. It might have to go onto the same rack as the rest of my equipment but I don't want it to cause anything else to hum if the transformer is too close. Is there a minimum distance that it needs to be f...

Re: JPW P1 Doc Mods
Oops missed the direct fit bit, they are except for the connectors . They require an an extra 5 mm either side. I chiseled this bit out. Thanks for the info. Probably not worth messing about with the other tweeters that I have then, both sets would require new holes to be drilled, if the Doc Mod tw...

Re: JPW P1 Doc Mods
DQ, any chance of a picture of the tweeters so that we can see how they look in place, I'm also interested to know if they are a direct fit into the existing fixings.

Re: JPW P1 Doc Mods
Hi Doc, payment sent via PPG for a pair of the 8 inch mid bass Doc Mod drivers. I've got a couple of pairs of soft dome tweeters that were previously in other speaker projects that I am thinking of trying, a pair of Morel DMS20 and an unbranded pair that I purchased several years ago but do sound qu...

Re: JPW P1 Doc Mods
Sorry, I think I have confused matters, I was trying to get an idea of how the total costs compared.
I am just looking to buy the mid/bass drivers at the moment, which according to the link would be £120 + £10 P&P as you have said above, if that is correct I will send payment tonight.

Re: JPW P1 Doc Mods
Thanks for the link, I have made it a sticky. No P&P at cost has to applied as I hope some / most can be collected. Packing safely is a pain, even more so with tweeters after mods. Unfortunately collection is not an option for me. How much would P&P be? I'm still not sure whether to go for ...

Re: JPW P1 Doc Mods
Doc, here's the link to the prices for the drivers http://hifisubjectivist.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=46916 While searching I came across the price DQ paid, he got a fantastic price. I'd be interested in a pair of the 8 inch drivers at the prices quoted in the link though. Would those prices inclu...

Re: JPW P1 Doc Mods
Yesterday I moved them back to about 3 inches from the wall which was as close as I could get them, they were about 8 inches out before that. The bass filled in nicely so I gave them toe in to face me directly at the listening spot which seemed to help imaging a little bit. I know I need to spend mo...

Re: JPW P1 Doc Mods
I finally had chance to do a little bit more with these speakers yesterday so I took the crossover out and replaced it with just the resistor and Clarity cap to the tweeter. Initial impressions were mainly excellent, voices sounded more expressive than before, tone, timbre and detail were more appar...
