Re: User review thread

That was a really good deal on the SME30. For me the SME arms and TT's I've heard have been very much left brain devices. Great for detail. Great for analysing how the record was produced. Trouble is, they've left the right side of my brain unstimulated and frustrated. When an emotional song comes t...

Re: User review thread

...Sometimes in life you strive and strive for an ambition and when you achieve it it's a letdown. Sometimes the achievement is as good as or better than the expectation. I would fit my LP12 - Isobarik system into the former category. Making love to Katia for the 1st time the latter. As a spotty you...

Re: User review thread

...From 1983 to 2003 my LP12 went from Valhalla, Basik LVX, Rega R100 to Cirkus, Ittok LVIII, Linn K9, Lingo 2. The Cirkus and Ittok arrived at the same time and bought greater detail and clarity. I could hear details I hadn't heard before. The Lingo 2? I'm not sure as my Valhalla went sick. So I wa...

Re: User review thread

...I used to think that studio recordings on vinyl were unable to capture the sound of bass guitars when the rest of the band were playing. When I went to gigs I could always hear each instrument clearly. So clearly that I could pick out and follow each instrument at will. Incuding the bass guitar. ...

...Hanging Around my local specialist Popular Hi-fi magazine recommended dealer in the summer of 1983 with an £800 budget for my 1st system. Big girl in the red dress she's just trying to impress us. Over the course of 2 demos I found that the LP12 sounded much more dynamic than the Rega Planar 3. I...

Re: User review thread

A long long time ago in a far and distant household that ate far too many Galaxy bars, my oldest brother bought a copy of What Hi-fi magazine. It had a pink cover. He left it in the living room sideboard. I found it and read it. In his quest to decide what system to spend his student grant money on,...

Re: Valves

Got a nasty surprise when I turned on my solid state power amp in my bi-amped system. Horribly loud 50hz buzz. I probably won't be repairing this amp. Just not worth the time or money. So much for solid state being more reliable than valves - in my system. So, I'll be on the look out for a decent ch...

Re: Affordable Valve Company.

I'm listening to a 300b push pull amp now that I bought new from him a few years ago. It's a decent sounding amp for the money. I prefer the greater detail that I get from my Coincident 300b SET monoblocks. But the Coincidents are much more expensive new and were still more expensive for the 2nd han...

Re: What makes for a good soundstage?

Trying some different speakers is a great idea. As well as gaining better soundstaging there's a good chance you'll also get better clarity, dynamics. Possibly tighter more extended more impactful bass too.

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

btw, Lt -- are you really that obsessed with football? Football's great entertainment. I just think that football transfer net spending and hi-fi buying and selling are a good analogy. You get some people that get good results by spending loads - eg Manchester United or someone with a Wilso...
