Re: Building a DIY amp with NVA amplifier boards

Awesome work Stu.. Looks like a mix of Avondale EI transformers, Canturbury Windings Toroids and even Nuvotem Talema toroids(ex Naim?) by the looks of it, with Avondale Minicap 6 Power supplies and Hackercaps perhaps too? I'd just clothe it in 6mm Perspex Stu and leave it as it is for folk to wonder...

FANTASTICO Stu.

The culmination of much thought and dedication to the cause of a sound presentation that suits you perfectly; well almost as I guess there will no doubt be more from the rustic workshop and sound laboratory that is Chez Stu!

Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

Looking great Steve.

I particularly like the way the top plate turned out with the meshed vents and black paint, very cool. No pun intended of course ;)

Re: Beauty in the eye of the beholder

I wholeheartedly dislike gratuitous "look at me" aesthetics. However, for those who do like this aesthetic, sonically they would probably be better off ripping the guts out and replace the innards with NVA philosophy driven hardware - even though the massive amounts of aluminium casework w...

Re: NVA feedback - what could be better

Helo Mick. Apologies if my question was a little ambiguous. I asked because you compared the expensive MF KW550 with a cheap as chips NVA A20. Not exactly a level playing field to be fair. I have undertaken a DIY upgrade to my A20 whereby each board is now fed with a much larger power supply and bet...

Re: NVA feedback - what could be better

Fair points Mick, but what when one factors in new retail/SH cost difference? Would you not expect a pair of A70's /A80's to be much closer in presentation?

Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

It's a pleasure Steve. A very interesting thread, (along with Karatestu's) on DIY'ing NVA SS amps.

I think they'll flame polish each edge for you too for a small additional fee.
