Re: Ask a designer

Thanks Doc. I was concerned because I have heard a bad mismatch with these amps using a Croft derived valve pre (by Danish company and modded by croft). A certain dealer continues to claim they are a good match. Assumed high gain and impedance. Also an AOS member is using a second hand NVA with an ...

Re: Ask a designer

I am looking at a passive pre that might work with Albarry monoblock amps. Would like to know output impedance of the NVA preamps. The Albarry has a 5.1Kohm input impedance so lower than the norm.

Re: The Slippery Slope to Vinyl

I tried SACD recently. I have to say it was extremely underwhelming, although I only had one disc to try. The player was supposedly a decent one and the disc was a Linn SACD sampler, so I'm not convinced that greater exposure would've changed things. It was still nowhere near vinyl for me. You need...

Re: The Slippery Slope to Vinyl

Either the Revox or standard Technics will sound crap. Revox lightweight (clever design work though), Technics dull. £1000 to put things right better spent on a proper turntable. Vinyl done right should piss all over a squeezebox.

Re: BEST SOUND - VINYL OR CD....?

Digital can sound good if you have a decent DAC and CD transport but it always lacks the solid relaxed sound and superior soundstage of vinyl. Have heard a few mega expensive set ups being demoed and they still don't touch a modestly priced TT for musical satisfaction. The fact that a high percentag...

Re: Forum Clock...

They tried changing it from 1968 to 1971. Everyone complained (not just Scots) and we went back to GMT.

Re: Mains Cables (captive)

What do you think. LOL. I wouldn't class an output transformer as a circuit but excuse my ignorance - but it appears the bigger OT the better with valves. I would prefer not to have the ambivalent statement. Mostly it is a circuit to accommodate the transformer. Thought it was obvious I was joking....

Re: Mains Cables (captive)

Was the laugh smiley because you are joking. If not where have you read that valve amps are excluded from the regs, can you give me a link, as it is news to me. What do you think. LOL.
