Re: Time to go Planar!

I have a linear supply for it which is a very solid upgrade for it. I cant think of any particular downsides to it to be honest although there are certainly better dacs out there. Im not in a postion to invest alot in digital, mainly because im not that interested in doing so because im happy enough...

Re: Oh My God, What Have I done!?

If the real ale man likes it, then who is anyone to say otherwise I found with my lp12 that once i binned off the linn arms and carts the deck was perfectly reasonable. Not the last word in anything, but i could happily listen to it. With a project arm in 2002, one of the very first one bought separ...

Re: Time to go Planar!

With dacs i have used a few fairly recently. Last one i bought was a topping e30 to go with an old arcam delta 170 transport. I have compared it to a musical fidelity m1, (next youngest), my cyrus cd7 (1998) a beresford tc7510 and an arcam black box 3 which was the matching dac for the transport (19...

Re: Time to go Planar!

Im curious about the b&w p7s My daughter tried the p5s and immediately wants them to replace her sennheiser momentums. Fat chance, unless i could get something better than the p5s for not much money which is not all that likely for the money i paid for them. Ive gotten quite attached to the easy...

Re: Listening habits

Re: Time to go Planar!

Interesting.. abit off topic, but you folks know more than me about these things. The b&w p5s are really rather nice. Balanced abit towards the bassy end of the spectrum for me, but pleasantly smooth and engaging even though id prefer a more neutral presentation. Ive been using them with my phon...

Re: Time to go Planar!

Re: HQ Player vs (modded) CD player - savvypaul's digital bake-off

All it is is a valve output stage instead of an op amp one as far as i can see. i changed op amps on a couple of philips 1541 players, and recapped them completely. There is also the nos mod that can be done to the 1541. I like 1541 players, they are fun things to play with. The valve output stage i...
