Re: What turntabe do you use and why ?

I have the jbe series 3 and mayware formula 4 which I have an emotional attachment to so will never sell. The jvc ql-y5f which I use all the time as it is so convenient to use and sounds brilliant A 301 which needs a plinth building when i have the time, one of my lenco conversions which doubles as ...

Re: Naim

The piece of crap akito was r...

Re: a couple of turntable restorations

Well the 2 turntable system has had to he mugged off as the xlps phono stage has developed a fault. It is putting out bursts of noise, i suspect some sort of issue with the power supply rather than the gain stages and riaa network as there is no distortion present, just the intermittent noise bursts...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Am I becoming like Marco where every change is life enhancing ? I guess that possibility is always a danger Stu  I think Les gave a good reason for the case of inductors between the caps but I cannot remember what it was and as I'm no electronics expert I cannot say why so myself. Alfi...

Re: a couple of turntable restorations

Ive put the goldring eroica L on it. This thing is lovely!
Not a single trace of harshness or hardness, and im noticing, absolutely sod all surface noise. The 97 and the 150 arent particularly bad for it, but this is silent.
The m97 was getting on my tits, a touch harsh, this is not. At all.

Re: Tonearm/Cartridge matching.

The audio technica at-f7 is an absolute cracker. I hated at carts of old until I decided to buy one of these based on the hifi world review. The point that sealed it was that the tracking was superb. I wanted something that would track very well and it does. They are abit thin to start with, and fil...

Re: a couple of turntable restorations

The jvc is getting much more use than the jbe is, so much so that I decided to get another moving coil cart to go on it. It deserves better than the shure m97xe. The mayware isnt particularly suited to medium/low compliance stuff, but the jvc robot arm will happily take pretty much owt. Got a goldri...

Re: Funny old business

Something automatic with a single button to press such as the jvc I rebuilt, a denon, that kind of thing, can sound very good and may fit the bill as a stand in for you until you recover.
No faffing around to Set up things like tracking weight either, most of that ilk have a dial
