Re: Building a DIY amp with NVA amplifier boards
Some more replies on this thread about transformers for power amplifiers "Good old Mr W :) My six power amps all use EI transformers. I too am convinced that for me they produce better sounds then toroids. We are of course both deluded" "Well then I am also similarly deluded. I have h...

Notice the rounded backside of the driver in the Elipson 4260 spherical speaker, top left in the diagram below. I have read in several places that it is a good idea. Coming to a cheap Chinese driver near you soon.

Re: Building a DIY amp with NVA amplifier boards
I have been quite vocal about how much better I think EI transformers sound compared to toroidal, even powering the output stages of a power amp. Of course some just refuse to accept that transformers can sound different. I find that as long as the stray field is kept away from the load then the dif...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
Found this on my travels. An up firing mid bass in an Ikea bowl sphere with four tweeters attached round the periphery. Same sort of idea as a sonab or Carlson speaker from the golden age of everything (1970's). I think that is a sub at the bottom. https://i.imgur.com/ahQ3SKB.jpg Missed a trick the...

Better be careful what you say. I'm quite surprised the Lenco fan club hasn't turned up here yet to say you are wrongDaniel Quinn wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 4:38 pm

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
I'm just obsessed with spheres now. I think they look ace and better and less imposing to my eyes than the usual boring speaker shape.

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
Cut the holes in the other tweeter pod today. This 7s going to be a marathon not a sprint. In the past when doing prototypes I have been in such haste to hear it that I rushed and cut corners. Can't do that now, I need to take it steady and produce something that not only sounds good but is a pleasu...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
You are really giving this speaker some thought, you should have been a speaker designer for one of the major manufacturers, think of all the facilities they have open to them. Thanks Dave. Doc used to say I over think things, my wife says so too. I'm not quite right in the head  Often at wor...
