Re: Shahinian Compass Review - some interesting observations

Yes Fretless, I do indeed suspect the Cubes will image better etc. FWIW, I looked at the cost of 20mm acrylic: I reckon the Doc's pricing is very good given the materials cost and the time and effort involved in making a pair. If they came from one of the big brands, you could probably double the pr...

Shahinian Compass Review - some interesting observations

This review http://shahinianacoustics.com/HFC9_Shahinian.pdf explains better than most of what I've read why an omnidirectional approach to speakers works so well. While the Cubes are very different, it seems that similar principles apply. I particularly liked the sentence "Rather than creating...

Re: Cube design philosophy

I'm in South Derbyshire. I also plan to visit the Scalford show in a couple of weeks, although I suspect there may not be any cubes there.

On the subject of demos, I'd be happy to demonstrate my approach to computer based audio together with 'black magic' tweaks that seem to work.

Re: Cube design philosophy

Thanks Doc. I think the penny's dropped. With the face of the bass/mid driver occupying most of one face in the centre plus the shape of the cone inside the sealed box significantly reduces the standing wave possibilities due to backwave scattering and at different frequencies. Indeed, a non square ...

Cube design philosophy

I have trawled various parts of the forum to glean some understanding of the philosophy behind the Cube series of speakers. I understand the principle behind using bass drivers that can run full with no crossover components - my Scan Dynas use a 10 inch bass driver with no XO components and just a s...

Re: Computer Audio. Wish There Was a Bullet Proof Blue Print

I tried the Jitterbug on a friends system today, comprising a laptop feeding a Wyred4sound USB to SPDIF converter, going into a modified Jolida DAC and hence onto a Consonance 300B based amp and finally a pair of Impulse Audio Lali speakers. The effect was similar to my system: more precise location...

Re: Computer Audio. Wish There Was a Bullet Proof Blue Print

Jitterbug arrived today and seems to work well with the Musical Fidelity VDAC2. Better separation of instruments and improved soundstage. The biggest benefit seems to be the removal of a layer of 'fug'.
