Re: DVd player for CDs

Mechanically there is no practical difference between a CD transport and a DVD transport the difference is in the density of data on the disc and the laser for reading it. The DVD has a greater density of data so needs a more precise tracking mechanism. I would have thought that a DVD transport woul...

He used to pick the Premium Bond numbers, didn't he?
He might as well have done, mine never came up. Then again he might have been a milkman.

I really dislike the whole idea of Beethoven's work being turned into a political anthem. I suspect he wouldn't be terribly happy either.

Re: Brexit Deal - one of the easiest in human history?

Some time back I told some one on Facebook that, despite voting remain her duty was to work for the good of the country. She didn't like it. If you are registered to vote you have agreed to abide by the results of an election or referendum, even if you don't participate. Now tell me that you don't a...

Re: My year in Hifi - 2020

interesting to read the digital journeys people have got through this year. I went back in time: let the NVA TFS digital machine go back to NVA Towers and utilised a Google Chromecast Audio, Trends DAC and MacBook Pro as my only digital source. However, I did acquire a beautiful R2R machine. I let ...

Re: My year in Hifi - 2020

Hi-Fi? Nothing Live sound, resurrected a pair of elderly AKG condenser mics (basically just cleaned the gaffer tape off them). Bought a couple of very cheap condenser mics to play with before buying more expensive versions. One was a shotgun mic that the manufacturer intended for use with video came...

Re: The Hi-Fi Industry and Hobby

I don't think there is a lack of interest in music amongst young people, although it is not as intense as it was during the classic rock era. I am going on the numbers I see walking round and on public transport (prior to Covid) with headphones on. What I have noticed is the proportion with headpho...

Re: The Hi-Fi Industry and Hobby

Interestingly, talking to my nephew and his girlfriend, large speakers are fine, and the tt interested them, but the rest they thought was ott. Katie (said gf) quite liked my speaker monstrosities, but was rather disparaging about the number of boxes. The wife's face at that was a picture..... My w...
