Colour can have a pretty powerful impact on some people apparently. The colour of medication has been shown to affect effectiveness. My take would that public human social interactions are often about 2 things: belonging to groups and; consolidating personal status / reputation / identity.
Nothing I see on hifi forums (including my own posts) suggest hifi forums are any different in these regards. No reason they should be.
