Re: Computer Security
Yup - we've had the help desk 3 times. The first time they told me they were from microsoft and their systems had detected a fault that would soon cause my computer to crash seriously. i thanked them for the information and asked them to confirm the mac code of the PC with the problem. "It's yo...

Re: Computer Security
Thanks Slinger. These things are a bloody nightmare. I get a regular barrage of phising emails - some puporting to be from Companies House or HMRC are seriously convincing. It is only details like asking you to open a zip file which give them away. So - in addition to firewall and anti-virus - never...

Re: Pinky's Funky Rambling's....!!!
Well, its certainly good sport for that. I don't want Walnut! I was going to build bland mdf, probably cover with the cheapest veneer, since spraying mdf is naff, and spray that black. Gus' estimate for having the cabinets built, unfinished, was £2000. So, although its a pity to damage that lovely w...

Re: Pinky's Funky Rambling's....!!!
Owen has picked up the Lowthers. Allegedly that Walnut finish I am planning to sand and spray black, is a very fine piece of wood. He has installed them, and pointed out that I will probably be listening in class A from now on. Barely 3w rms needed to drive them loud. Apparantly his Bongo (sort of J...

Re: The Dinner Thread.
Hmm. We are a little challenged atm. We have 2 French ladies (teachers) staying with us, and between them don't like most food. Barbecue last night, roast chicken tonight, but I am running out of bright ideas

Re: My hifi is a disaster 1 problem at a time .
Something ate my last post while I was on hold for the council. A rise (not spike) around middle C often sounds more "live" or "present" and I guess is down to your crossover design. Regardless, if it were my set-up I would be tempted to try some curtains on the edge windows, and...

Re: The Lawnmower thread
Moles are not our No1 problem. They are at the very far end of the far paddock only. Ant hills (huge mounds) are a problem. Stones - yes - but for me this time also sections of discarded wall lobbed into the bottom paddock by some kindly Romany no doubt - hidden in the overgrown grass I suffer with ...

Re: The Lawnmower thread
Trouble is there are 3 of them, on a deck weighing over 60kg, which sustain industrial scale wear from some semi-rough cutting in the paddocks. I have to take an angle grinder to them before I can even think about a file. But very satisfying once done

Re: The Lawnmower thread
I really should sharpen the blades more often. The lawn looks so much better for being cut rather than bludgeoned into submission
