Re: Why no analogue to digital talk
Gents, let's not forget that the tda1541 was for quite a while the only 16 bit dac chip in town available to every brand. Also let's not forget that it was surpassed, I don't recall any of the magazines making claims that the newer 16, 18 and 24 bit chips from Sony, wolfson, pm, bb et al that follow...

Re: Robbing Bar Stewards
750 includes fitting, so a couple of hours of a decent dealers time. Interestingly it's too big to be used with many 3rd party psu boards and the in deck mounted Valhalla as it fouls the hole in the pcb. No doubt intentionally...

Re: Specifications - let's get them out of the way
It's a subjective forum and the brand take the same viewpoint. That's fine, but theres a whole chunk of the market who want measurable fidelity, if you're happy to accept that a marketing stance is sufficient reason not to provide what they require as part of their purchasing decision, then so be it...

Re: Merc
I run a Benz LP, that's the range topper prior to the current LP-S. Excellent cart, a real open window onto the recording.

Re: Cable burn in
Cables are system specific because not all kit has infinite psrr and noise rejection, and input and output impedance vary as does load in variance.
Use stuff that's load invariant and has 100db of psrr and noise rejection and cable sound disappears, ime.
@madmick, I'd look at experimental first.

Re: Cable burn in
No denying that people believe they hear cables burn in. But given that no science supports this, we really should look to equipment warm up and acclimatisaion as more likely causes.

Re: DIY thoughts of the day
A pre amp attenuates the signal and noise equally, so running the pre quiet is only an issue if your power amp has poorer noise performance than the pre, as you're adding extra noise vs what an unattenuated source would have presented. The best active pre amps can be quieter than a passive. Most/all...
