Re: HFS at the WAM show

I liked the sound you were getting in the room Richard, the bigger speakers sound more successful to my ears, lots to like about them. I thought it was a mixed bag, some good sounds, some surprisingly poor sounds. Hard to say what was at fault when you dump your home system into an unknown room. Any...

Re: Who buys this stuff?

No reason why they shouldn't work, just an RC filter for HF noise, you can make the same for oh, about £4

Re: Time the Slurpers are killed off

I would say that Nicks stuff uses very similar margins of COGs to sale price as most mainstream brands. I'd warrant his COGs-sale margin is higher than Rega (5), lower than Naim (10). I'd also suggest that his time to build is much higher than either of those brands as he has zero economies of scale...

Dealers don't just sell to customers they hold stock as well, which allows you to produce in volume and gain savings in production. It's far more nuanced a situation than dealers do nothing for their bit. Sure some overcharge for the service they offer, some don't. Swings and roundabouts.

Re: Political Correctness

I get both sides. I'm an old northerner and my Mrs is a clinical psychologist for the NHS so gets PC stuff rammed down her neck. I don't have many friends who aren't caucasian European in heritage so I get pretty much zero exposure to the favoured terms to describe people's heritage, race, skin colo...

Re: Drama Queen, no Crap Second Hand Dealers Lies.

I have no idea who the dealer is or how trustworthy they are but there are more possible outcomes here. A. The Hermes guy signed for it and dumped it and the dealer doesn't have it. Hermes have form for signing for stuff like this and leaving it at the delivery location. B. The Hermes guy signed for...

Re: What is a hi-fi forum shill.

That's a perfectly good example of an 'the thing about' comparison where the poster is obviously presenting opposite ends of the spectrum clearly in contrast for all properties but one, price in this case. People who buy a Rolex buy it because it's a status symbol, an expensive piece of hand made sw...

Re: What is a hi-fi forum shill.

I don't care if someone is indoctrinated by a dealer or brand, people are want to like all sorts of strange shit. But if they receive a contracted benefit as a result of their supporting a dealer or product then that's shilling. I think the grey area is awfully big. You can smell them though. It's e...

Re: AoS

It's never as black and white as that. You are correct for the most part and concentrations of cadmium are currently limited to <100ppm in general electronic components for a number of years, but the latest restrictions do not come in place until October this year. There are certain electronic compo...
