Re: Whats in a 'Isoplug'?
It's a pretty standard spike suppressor all said and done. Just not really applicable to hifi specifically, more a general mains safety item.

Re: Whats in a 'Isoplug'?
What's in an Isoplug, about £6 I'd say.

Predictable, because he doesn't read Subjectivist and I've not seen him this weekend to tell him.
Was he really leaning towards 'broken' rather than 'just set to MM?'

Re: Capacitors
Recapped a Krell KSA 200 that was 25 years old, one of the old caps has blown it's cork, 100v 22,000uf thing the size of a pint of beer. That cost about £200 for six caps. It was a right mess inside.
To be expected though 200 watts foi full time Class A, it was hotter than hell in there.

Re: Hi-Fi Shows
Thanks for the offer of loaner gear Doc. Here's an idea for the National. Why not get some cards printed out prior to the event. People fill in their details on the card and you send them a loaner. Do a set of cards for each item in the line up, so people can pick and choose what they want. You star...

Re: Hi-Fi Shows
I enjoyed the show, there was a right mixture of kit. Some of the big dick stuff pulled it off, some of it failed miserably. Let's be honest here, for £600 you had no competition in any of the rooms. (Though that mid-sunday afternoon Swiss jazz, sheesh.) The Neat room was good, that 5 way OB stuff w...

Re: Many Questions
I'm not sure what to make of the authenticity thread. Some people want measured accuracy others just want enjoyment however they can find it. They're not likely to agree on what sounds best after all they want different things. I find myself on the measured accuracy side of that fence, but I don't s...

Re: Yorkshire HIFI club Phono Stage write up / results
Jez's stage shares only a very basic topology with the Paradise ie its a transconductance input stage. The psu's are nothing alike, jez's using no coupling caps in the signal path and uses completely different devices for amplification. It's as much like the paradise in execution as one single ended...

The funny thing is Doc you and him are far more alike than either of you would ever admit. Holds strong opinions- check Doesn't believe in foo- check Doesn't suffer fools- check Not afraid of saying unpopular things- check Banned from various fora - check Designs hifi- check Sells direct - check Can...
