Re: CD Transport
Re the Cambridge CXC, mine developed a skipping problem. Reading up on CXC problems I reasoned it may be a laser problem. I found the CXC uses a Sanyo laser unit, so I ordered one from Amazon, it came from China and was about £12.50 inc carriage. I pissed up the fitting of it, so I now have another ...

Re: CD Transport
One charity shop (near me) is selling CDs @ 10 for £1. So it's cheap to build up a sizable collection. And, the range of titles is surprisingly broad, not just "old git" music. In the past I have purchased "job lots" of CDs from Ebay sellers, the last few were mainly classi...

Re: Bloody weather
I go walking two mornings a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) in most conditions (not in pouring rain) and always wear shorts. Coldest start so far was -6C last week. Am I hardy, or daft ? As they say in Norway (or is it Finland?): There's no such thing as bad weather. Only bad clothing. Rest...

Re: Bloody weather
The temperature rose a bit late this afternoon . Good riddance sub zero temperatures. Get the shorts on boys, it's gonna be 13 degrees on Monday :obscene-smokingsombrero: I go walking two mornings a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) in most conditions (not in pouring rain) and always wear shorts. Colde...

Re: Feck me......
I do feel that the political content on here has put me off visiting more often than I do. In my humble opinion, religion and politics are emotive subjects not suited to a specialised forum. Perhaps this should be the Labour party forum with an NVA sub section ? And, yet, the thread you have ...

Re: Guilty (Musical) Pleasures
I've got a Des O'Connor CD and I enjoy playing it now and then.
Also, I like Nina and Frederick and lots more from the 50s and early 60s.
A full list might be too much for those of a weak disposition.

Re: ASR and the rise of the intelligent idiots
Hmm. Most (if not all) measuring equipment used by professionals can be (and usually is) checked and calibrated at regular intervals. Equipment in private hands (ie hobbyists and enthusiasts mainly) may not be. A manufacturer has to aim for a standard that will be accurate (whatever that means...

Re: Form versus function
It's not really snobbery. It's being competitive. Every home fest (I detest the phrase "bake off") that I have attended, or hosted, has never been in any way, shape, or form, competitive. I think any competitive element would spoil the occasion. Even the Audio - Talk Owston event is delib...

Re: Form versus function
I take great delight in turning up to bake-offs with kit that looks plain, or ugly or old fashioned or that looks like it will sound a certain way. And comparing it against stuff that the owner has paid more for, that looks fashionable / expensive / as if it will sound a certain way, with those loo...
