hi-fi stand
Afternoon all, I'm on the lookout for a new hi-fi stand. Currently a metal Sound Organisation 4 shelf rack holds the music boxes. I'd like a four or five tier wooden rack without metal screws. I'm thinking along the lines of what the Doc said about the screws forming unwanted eddy currents or some s...

Re: Your last listen
I've been enjoying Japanese psychedelic rock/noise music from - Les Rallizes Dénudés, Dragpur, Up-Tight, Cosmic -Kurushi Monsters, Acid Mothers Temple (free live downloads on archive.net). Also 'Dilettante - Tantrum' and Natalie Beridze. The Japanese band Les Rallizes Dénudés mostly concentrated on ...

Re: Phono stage tingle
The P20 power amp is on the shelf beneath the XLP, and when powered on the tingle is at its strongest. maybe due to the acrylic casework rather than metal allowing a larger electrical field to spread. Doesn't really matter because sound quality is unaffected. Although sound quality tests undertaken ...

Re: Phono stage tingle
With the power off and plug removed there's still a (mild) tingle when fingers are stroked over the outside edge of the facia. Static from me I guess. It's stronger when the juice is flowing.

Phono stage tingle
I use a Musical Fidelity XLP phono stage, and noticed recently when the power is on and my finger touches the edge of the front cover an electrical hum or tingle can be felt.
Is this normal or a sign of a problem ?

Re: Fitting new cartridge.
Thanks SteveTheShadow it worked. First impression is:- a laid back conservative presentation. A little too laid back compared to the last MC cart I had but I'll give my ears time to adjust and see if my hearing becomes used to this mellow approach.

Fitting new cartridge.
I pushed out the boat and bought a new cartridge. A hana EL MC. On fitting this to the Jelco headshell I had a ham-fisted moment and put too much pressure on the blue wire tube-end and it's now slightly pressed together, making sliding onto the cartridge male connector impossible. Having tried to pr...

Re: Electrostatic headphones
I wimped out on the expensive electrostatics. Maybe I'll be able to audition them one day, but until then my little Sony noise cancelling and Sennheiser HD206 will be on duty. Hard to jusify electros when headphones are only used infrequently.

Electrostatic headphones
Have you tried them, do you own some ? I'm tempted by Koss earphones as well as the classic Stax, although have never heard these in action. People on another forum were describing the clarity and detail but said they are a tad bass light. I was interested in one question on a headphone forum asking...
