Re: Accurate or musical
Seems like you like accuracy and precision Lurcher, and that's what gives you "moments of joy". In other words your perception of a live trumpet must be matched by your perception of a reproduced trumpet for your homesystem to be joyful. So what is they key element here? Perception - the i...

Re: Unboxing P20/A20
Any news here? The suspense is too much........ Is it me, you are asking....? Well, I am enjoying myself....haven't really had much peace to listen - but I am enjoying it enormously..... It is really quite (very) different from my valve amp (which I have loved). The single word that occurs to me wi...

Re: Accurate or musical
Describe why. Some things engage us. Some things don't. That's why. No other reason is needed or should be given (in my world). As individual world-builders some things click (can be incorporated in our present world or intrigue us) and some things don't. I would think it is best to follow our enga...

Re: Accurate or musical
As far as I can see Geoff you belong to the second class of understanding with its emphasis on what music does to you (whether you are engaged and stirred or shaken). But then you have a little bit of nostalgia for the cleansing experience of live music as if this and this alone belongs to the world...

I think at its roots this problem is based on two quite different world-perceptions. On the one hand we have the cosy, traditional understanding that we have direct contact...

Re: Accurate or musical
How about just "Pleasing"? I agree that "accurate" is wobbly ground at best, and "musical" for me is just a term of approval (sometimes used snobbishly). Instead of trying to describe the sound, I prefer to describe, what the sound does to me. And the bottom of the line...

Re: Unboxing P20/A20
My mind closed down last night and I went to bed early. Unboxing is hard work and tiring. I did get a listen to another test-album: Miles Davis - Ascenseur Pour l'Echafaud (ascending the gallows). Wonderful film noir music and traditionally used to test because the bass is (or can be) troublesome......
