Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

I gave up with valves because the kt77 amp I had spent so much time and effort on wasn't as good as the f5. And I am not capable of designing an amp that would be. But the f5 isnt exactly a run of the mill amp itsself. Tbh the only other ss amp that I have heard that I would rather have is nicks p6....

Re: PFM

How was it even measured? If it was measured by using the pcb tracks, it could be in parallel with another cap of the same size. There is no way to confirm the reading is not false. Lcr meter or the capacitance function on a normal dmm? Who knows? I find it hard to believe that a cap can be that far...

Re: gyrodec tonearm combo

Imo the hadcock is better than the r200. I have rebuilt and used a few r200s so i know it inside out. And the hadcock too, ive used one recently. However, the r200 would be a better match to most mc carts as it is medium mass. And it sounds good. I just wouldn't right off the hadcock just for the sa...

Re: Dacs

Im partial to tda1541 based dacs, i just find them more musical. I used a tda1541 based arcam delta black box 3 for a long time, tried the musical fidelity x24k which I think was a wolfson dac, have heard the mf m1 dac and have a beresford tc 7510. The arcam was always the musical one, the 2 musical...

Re: gyrodec tonearm combo

Id look at something like the audio technica at f7 moving coil for that arm, compliance is a little higher than usual and the hadcock is fairly light low mass

Re: Line Level Crossover

Yes, its a single component to keep higher frequencies out of the driver. Wether its needed or not is another matter. A pair of lugholes would tell you that. When i built the mets I ran just a cap on the tweeter and the main driver open, the very top of that driver was not very nice so i ended up wi...

Re: Line Level Crossover

I actually made a pair of passive subs for a laugh using a pair of Richard doped qtx 12" drivers a couple of weeks ago. All i did was to get 2 big cardboard boxes 18"x18"x16", seal them very well with tape and run them open with no crossover in parallel with my metronomes. They were actually quite g...

Re: AoS

I dont have a workshop, i have a dining room. That has to be used as a dining room too. The 2 sheds I put up are full of swmbo's Guinea pigs. This means that work spills into other rooms, and everything has to be put away. At least I dont tend to lose stuff as it all has to go away properly. There i...

Re: Computer audio and my closed mind

I have file based audio via a mac mini and beresford tc7510. and hardly use it. Its easier to stick a record in than it is to turn on, log in, wait for it to boot up, fire up iTunes, wait for it to load again, search through thousands of tracks and hundreds of albums, and lose the will to live. The ...
