Re: DIY thoughts of the day
Re. selector switch musings. I ended up removing the selector switches from both of my NVA amps, a process of elimination of components and sources. When I still used a tuner and CD player, I fitted an on-on toggle switch as a selector. It allowed me to switch between 2 inputs, was cheap and sounded...

Re: The reality of magazine reviews
I was introduced to NVA amplification years ago via a glowing review by Ken Kessler in Hi-Fi News and still enjoy listening to music through my NVA amp. I have bought various bits of kit as a result of reading reviews but as with album reviews, they can never tell you whether you will like the item ...

Value of potentiometer?
Hi, I'd like to replace the cermet volume pot in my Black Box AP30 for a plastic film one. What value should I use?

Re: Acrylic
I replaced the MDF plinths on my Rega R3 loudspeakers with 19mm thick clear acrylic ones a few years ago, on a hunch they would look better and sound different. They looked better and sounded far more open and natural.

Re: Introduce Yourselves
Hi All, just to introduce myself after visiting this site many times and joining a while ago. I've had a long-term interest in Hi Fi, but claim that what I enjoy is listening to music. I've got 2 NVA amplifiers at present, both of which are in storage as I have a DAC with volume control that I use w...

Dexys Midnight Runners, 'Don't Stand Me Down'. I didn't like them back in the day, but the single 'This is What She's Like' remains one of my favourites. Saw them live in Bristol about 4 years ago, brilliant.

Re: Cd player vs transport and dac.
Hi, I tried a HiCap with my CD5x a few years ago and preferred the sound without it! Earlier this year I bought an Audiolab M DAC+ and tried it with a £40 DVD player. I preferred the combination to the CD5x, more detail, less coloured, better all 'round. I sold the Naim and bought a second hand Musi...
