If you add a resistor (say the same value), don't you actually lower the resistance.

Mr arkless ages ago, told me I could increase the gain on a phono stage by adding a same value resistor.
Depends if you put them in series or parallel

Re: TeraDak-style

Making that LED less bright may just be a case of adding in an extra resistor in it's voltage supply line. Knowing these modern dacs are mostly surface mount components, it might be too tricky to change whatever resistor is in there. Adding extra resistance might be possible ?

Re: Amps - Whats in em and why?

If you go down every possible road and try every permutation out it will take a very long time. You will however be extremely qualified in knowing which YOU think is best. I am guilty of always wondering what something else will sound like when really i should be finishing the diy stuff i have start...

Re: Cable capacitance

Any twisting increases capacitance i think, even strands in one wire. If it was me i would copy the way the NVA cables are made. Possibly several soild core wires of different diameter each in their own PTFE insulation and just laid side by side. Don't use a screen as the negative conductor but use ...

Re: DIY thoughts of the day

Not strictly diy but it does affect what i think of my "creations". A quote from another forum "Even though it may come across as terribly elitist, I’ve sometimes wondered why people who mainly listen to modern studio music - amplified, processed, etc - bother with attaining high fidelity. After all...

Re: Holidays....yay

Just got back from a week in Cyprus. First time i have been. I enjoyed it very much. The weather was glorious, hardly a cloud all week and 26 to 28 deg C  The locals were saying it was unusually hot for beginning of Nov and there has not been nearly as much rain as expected. On the way to Pat...

Re: Amps - Whats in em and why?

I still think of myself as an electronics numpty who knows just enough to be dangerous, so take any of my views with a pinch of salt. Yes all adverts are full of marketing nonsense. Some are worse than others. If you are looking to learn more about what makes up an amplifier then you need to do a lo...
