Re: The Fonk

After Bootsy Collins left the J.B's he joined Parliament /Funkadelic. He also did some solo albums. They are out there baby. I need to be in a certain mood to play them.

Here's one from 1978 . Booty Collins - Bootzilla

Re: The Fonk

Can't go any further without mentioning the mutha of all funky drum breaks. The most sampled piece of music in history.

Clyde Stubblefield's Funky Drummer. Four and a half minutes in James Brown counts the drum break in "don't let it loose cos it's a mother"

Re: The Fonk

Some good suggestions, cheers

This one is rather obscure from 1999. Four individuals all under 18 years of age. A huge dose of the meters in this one.

Re: The Fonk

Next up a funky tune from The Crusaders. Well you funk purists may say it's jazz funk but what the heck, its as funky as fook. The Crusaders (formerly The Jazz Crusaders) are most famous for working with Randy Crawford on Street Life but they have an enormous back catalogue of excellent music that i...

Re: Saving the Planet?

My whole system gets turned off when not in use. It's the right thing to do imo. I have a log burner which more or less heats the whole house. I get the wood free apart from my time on the farm chopping it up. The wood comes from the tree surgery i do and a coppice on the farm. Gets toasty hot somet...

Re: The Fonk

Next up is a tune from The Meters who along with James Brown are said to be the pioneers of funk. The Meters are from New Orleans and consisted of Art Neville (keyboards, vocals), George Porter Junior (bass), Leo Nocentelli (guitar) and Zigaboo Modeliste. They formed in 1965 and became the house ban...

Re: The Fonk

I love funk music. It makes me feel good and gives that urge to dance. It's great to play (drums) as well. I don't have a huge collection but thought i would share some of my favourites with y'all. First up is some old school funk from 1970 ish. The JB's were James Browns' backing band from about M...

Re: The Fonk

Liking this a lot. With you being a drummer and myself a bass player I think this sort of music appeals to the rhythmic side of us. It was listening to Average White Band and later Level 42 that got me into slap bass, I'm no Mark King but it's very satisfying getting that groove going. Funk is defi...
