Re: Music.

Well, apologies for any hornets nest i have disturbed It was only a joke after alll. For gods sake I have a LP12 Lingo1, several Naim amplifiers (all currently in bits), a Naim CD3.5 (which I love by the way). So I do get the whole flat earth thing, how more flat earth can you get than Linn and Naim...

Re: Music.

If we got too close to the edge of the world we might fall off and end up in flat earth hell. The last thing you want to do is end up being proded up the ass with a three pronged Ekos by the son of Ivor (666) and made to chant "one, two, I love the tune dem".

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Some thoughts about time alignment. You can't do it with a semi omni unless applying delay using some form of digital audio trickery. Not going to happen I tell ya. The sound waves from the up firing mid bass get to your ears many milliseconds after those from the tweeter and they have been through ...

Re: Music.

Forum's do tend to bring out the worst in some people. They are best off ignored. Reading lots of different forums can take up a serious amount of your time. I have had to have words with myself on numerous occasions to stop reading them and actually get something done whether that be make something...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

I put another section of fence post behind the driver the best I could but it's not optimal as the speaker wires get in the way. I have listened extensively to all sorts of music and I am yet to find any part of the music annoying or noticeably higher in volume than it should be. There is no boxy so...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

I have mentioned EPI (Epicure) speakers before in this thread. They sure made some interesting speakers in the 70's & 80's. One model has a woofer and tweeter combo on two sides and the top. All the models are listed here with links to more information. https://www.humanspeakers.com/e/epimodels.htm

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Oh I see what you did there Peter. The little U that you put on the top has no ends on it so the driver with it's arse in the air has no enclosure. I am not sure what you would call it ? Kind of open baffle but not. A closed box with two of the panels missing.

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Hello Peter. Thanks for your comment. Yes you have to be on your guard with these things and always keep both ears fully opened  A boxy sound is probably due to the resonances at frequencies with a wavelegth equal to the dimensions of the gap. Imagine those sound waves bouncing around in there...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Next thing on my to do list is to invert that down firing mid bass so the cone faces out. Then when it's wiring is inside the enclosure and out of the way I can put another length of fence post right up to the back of it. After that then more prototypes  with 30 cm3 cabs, a back panel that goe...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

I moved that length of fence post as close to the driver as I could  Very interesting. These are now like a double cube3 on steroids. Bass goes deeper as well as being higher in volume. Gets me thinking about putting another length of fence post tight up at the back of the mid bass to create ...
