Re: The Hi-Fi Industry and Hobby

Richer Sounds is the only dealer now left worth having. Never thought I would say that 30 years ago when they started, everyone sneered at them. They don't try to rip you off. Unfortunately, they have indulged in some sly practice. Advertising flavour of the month 5 star reviewed products at a low ...

Re: Pioneer PL-707

I have an old Pioneer T/T in the loft that I bought from Cash Converters about 20 years ago for £30. I got it down this afternoon. To my surprise, it's a PL-71. It looks a bit sorry for itself but there doesn't seem to be any actual damage other than one of the feet has lost it's spring. It runs but...

Re: The Hi-Fi Industry and Hobby

In the pre-internet days I would end up at a dealer to listen to pieces of equipment that I had read about in magazine reviews. They'd play me 2 or 3 tracks through each bit of kit, from records I bought along, and I would then make a decision. I wouldn't get to talk with anyone else about the gear ...

Re: Ultimate stands for doc modded speakers ?

I'm not a fan of hollow steel stands - to my ears they audibly ring and blur the sound. Filling them with heavy shot or sand doesn't fix their colourations for me, either.

My preference is for light but rigid.
